The Japanese Government will offer Moldova financial assistance worth $176,450 to implement two new projects, one dealing with neurology and neurosurgery and the other dealing with agriculture. The respective agreement was signed on Monday in Chisinau by ambassador Mutsuo Mabuchi, based in Kyiv, and the Moldovan Agriculture Minister, Anatolie Gorodenco and representatives of benefiting entities, Info-Prim Neo reports. One of the two projects provides for installing the system of biomass heating at the kindergarten and the school from Hartopul Mare village. They are to buy two special boilers worth $88,000. “A large amount of vegetal cultures, especially cereals, are burnt directly in the field to free the soil, what has a negative impact upon the soil and agriculture in general. If the waste is used to get thermal power, these problems will be solved,” Anatolie Gorodenco said. According to him, one can heat over 4,000 boilers with cereal waste. If the project turns a success, the authorities hope to expand it over 100 Moldovan villages. The second project is related to modernizing the rehabilitating equipment of the Moldovan Neurology and Neurosurgery Institute, as $88,450 are needed in this respect. According to the president of the Neurological Rehabilitation Society from Moldova, Oleg Pascal, the new equipment will yield better results in rehabilitating patients. The equipment will be used to treat at least 30 people who are daily hospitalized at the Institute and 30 patients curing at home. The two projects are the first in Moldova to be implemented within the technical assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (KUSANONE) – supporting projects from NGOs and non-profit organization. The grant is part of the official assistance for Moldova's development. Japan has offered aid to Moldova amounting $62 million.
