The Republican Rehabilitation Center for Children was equipped with a high-performance ultrasound device. The equipment was purchased with the financial support of the Government of Japan through the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (Kusanone), IPN reports.

Japan’s Ambassador to Moldova, Yamada Yoichiro, noted that the new ultrasound diagnostic device will make it possible to perform several thousand examinations per year. The center offers medical assistance to children with disabilities. He remembered that during a visit to a similar institution in Kenya in 2012, also on the occasion of a ceremony to conclude a Kusanone project, he heard a quote from Mother Teresa: “There is Jesus in every disabled person.” “In Japan, some people believe that children with disabilities choose their parents before they are born because they know they will be loved by these, while the parents are given this challenge and chance to become even better. However, the faced challenges are enormous. I would like to express my respect to parents, caregivers and children for their efforts to realize their potential,” said the diplomat.

According to him, Japan has been Moldova’s partner in the medical and health sectors for many years. “The Government of Japan is proud to work with Moldova and will continue to do so throughout your journey towards joining the European Union,” stated Yamada Yoichiro.

State Secretary at the Ministry of Health, Ion Prisacaru, said that this ultrasound equipment allows to conduct a very large number of examinations, including of the musculoskeletal system and the cardiovascular system through Doppler. The equipment also offers the option of eco-guided treatments. This is extremely important because specialists will be able to implement new treatment methods and the Center’s team is engaged in this process of implementing new treatments.

Ecaterina Gîncotă, director of the Republican Rehabilitation Center for Children, said that the Center’s patients are aged between 0 and 18 years. Now children will benefit from the best checkups. Parents will no longer have to go to other institutions for these examinations as these will be available on the spot.

The Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects – Kusanone Program was launched in Moldova in 2008. So far, Japan has provided more than US$7.3 million in grant funding for about 90 projects in the fields of health, education and public utilities.
