The European Union will offer a drone interception system to Moldova, announced the head of the European Union Delegation in Chisinau Janis Mazeiks. According to the European official, the decision has already been agreed at the level of the European Union, but it is not clear when this interception system will reach Chisinau, IPN reports.

"It is clear that these actions (fall of drones, editor's note) represent a violation of the airspace and the status of neutrality. It is important to see what the Republic of Moldova can do to prevent this situation. In this connection, I can emphasize the European Union's support for the armed forces of the Republic of Moldova," Janis Mazeiks said in the program "At 360 Degrees" on Radio Moldova.

"In the past three years, we have provided considerable nonlethal equipment and we will also provide airspace protection equipment. It is a drone interception system," added Janis Mazeiks.

The diplomat could not name an exact period when this equipment will arrive in the Republic of Moldova. "I don't think this equipment will reach Chisinau in 2025. The decision has been taken, but it takes time to provide this equipment," explained the head of the European Union Delegation to Moldova.

At the beginning of December, fragments of a small drone were detected in Orhei district. Similar incidents were recently reported in the districts of Căușeni and Râșcani and also in the municipality of Chisinau. According to the police, the detected aircraft are drones or fragments of Russian Shahed drones.
