The director, vice director and head of the investment contracts division of the building company “Rom-Prim” SRL were sentenced to ten, nine and, respectively, eight years in jail for swindle and abuse of power, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, in 2007-2009, knowing that they will be unable to fulfill their contractual obligations, given the difficult economic and financial situation of the company, the culprits swindled about 25 million lei out of 43 injured parties on the pretext of building homes in Chisinau and in Cricova town until 2009. The blocks haven’t been yet erected. Only their foundations were laid.

The sentence can be appealed to a higher court.

The culprits were obliged to refund the money, but it is highly improbable that the whole amounts will be recovered, prosecutor Viorel Morari stated for IPN.

He also said that in similar cases, the injured parties can recover the invested money by tracking the property of the debtor. But when the embezzled property is wasted, the embezzler is unable to repay the money. The court orders those to blame to refund the money from current or future property. This means that the culprits have debts practically for life.

The damage to the injured party is paid based on a court decision. When this takes effect, an implementation order is issued and the bailiff starts the forced collection procedure.
