The mental health reform brought a lot of value to beneficiaries and increased the quality of services, the coordinator of the Calarasi Community Mental Health Center Izabela Moroz stated in a public debate hosted by IPN News Agency. According to the psychologist, the specialized center in Calarasi offers both medical services and psycho-emotional rehabilitation services, which help with the social integration of people with mental health problems.
The coordinator of the Community Mental Health Center in Calarasi noted that the entity offers medical assistance and psychosocial rehabilitation, support and mediation in relations with family and community, especially for people experiencing mental health problems.
“The mental health reform has brought a lot of value to our beneficiaries. Our institution provides multidisciplinary services, medical assistance services, psychosocial rehabilitation. We are specialists in different fields and we work as a team. We approach the beneficiary holistically. We work a lot with the family and the community. The flow of patients and beneficiaries has increased following the launch of the Community Mental Health Center and it is gratifying that patients are asking for quality services, not only to be offered drug treatment or to be diagnosed, but also to have access rehabilitation services. The people highly value family relationships, relationships with the community, social integration and that’s exactly what we do. We work on promoting mental health, the inclusion of people who have mental health problems in society. A lot of work is done to combat the stigmatization and discrimination of these people,” said Izabela Moroz.
According to psychologist, the beneficiaries of the Calarasi Center are people who were discharged from psychiatric hospitals and require emotional rehabilitation. The social integration of people facing mental health problems is also a challenge. In this connection, the Center’s team offers psychological consultancy and home visits.
“We offer support when patients are discharged from psychiatric hospitals. They come to specialists and we dynamically monitor their mental health and psych-oemotional state. It is very important for a beneficiary to be offered the entire complex of services when they are in difficulty. In addition, we also offer support to the family,” explained the coordinator of the Calarasi Community Mental Health Center.
According to Izabela Moroz, the Center provides a wide range of services, although the team of specialists should also be completed with a physiotherapist and an occupational therapist.
“The Calarasi Community Mental Health Center has been operating for 10 years now. We are happy when a person asks for a psychologist, a social worker, for psychological, psycho-therapeutic assistance, for counseling and asks less for a psychiatrist, if it is not a mental health problem established by a diagnosis. Much emphasis is placed on psycho-therapeutic assistance - a service that is developing rapidly in the Republic of Moldova. The Department of Mental Health, Medical Psychology and Psychotherapy provides us with continuous support. In Calarasi, we have a psychiatrist, a psycho-therapist, a psychiatric nurse and a social worker. It would be a luxury to have a physiotherapist, an occupational therapist. I’m sure that with fast steps, we will develop this community center and we will have the whole range of specialists,” said Izabela Moroz.
