Vasile Belous and Alexandru Rascan were eliminated from the European Boxing Championship. Belous lost to Spain’s Sissokko, while Rascan was beaten by Muhammad Ali of the UK. Moldova remained with two representatives at the European Championship held in Bulgaria. Lilian Ivanov and Dumitru Galogot compete in the quarterfinals this evening, August 12, IPN reports.
Ivanov plays against an Azeri boxer, while Galogot faces current European vice champion Vitali Dunaitsev of Russia.
Another five Moldovan pugilists left the competition in the first round. These are Maxim Cvasiuc, Victor Karapchevski, Andrei Zatushevski, Mihail Muntean, and Alexei Zavatin. The European Boxing Championship closes on August 15. This year’s competition brought together 241 boxers from 42 countries.
