The family and those who loved and appreciated Master Iurie Sadovnic, People’s Artist and Knight of the Order of the Republic, bid farewell to him in an atmosphere full of poems, music and applause. The funeral at the cemetery was attended by acting Prime Minister Aureliu Ciocoi, Master Eugen Doga, ex-minister of culture Monica Babuc and deputy mayor of Chisinau Angela Cutasevici, IPN reports.

In his farewell message, Eugen Doga said he highly praises Iurie Sadovnic’s work and his premature death means many unsung songs and unstaged concerts. “I wrote some lifeless signs and you gave them life. All the feelings you transmitted to the public were awaited and this will keep you in the memory of thousands of people as a nice recollection for many years to come,” said the composer.

Monica Babuc deplored the fact that they weren’t near the artist in this period and she now realizes why one of his last CDs was entitled “Escape”. “Did you want to escape from this life full of conflicts, evil and bad moods? I was always impressed by you kindness. You believed and loved everyone, endured and knew to be a man when you went to the Nistru war to sing to soldiers who defended our homeland,” noted the former minister of culture.

Iurie Sadovnic was awarded the title of Emeritus Artist of the MSSR (1984), the Civic Merit Medal (1993), “Mihai Eminescu” Medal (2000), the title of People’s Artist of the Republic of Moldova (2011) and the Order of the Republic (2015), which is the highest state award.

Iurie Sadovnic died on June 7. He was found shot dead. He reportedly killed himself with the legally held gun.
