The criminal case that features politician Iurie Rosca, who is accused of influence peddling in very large amounts, was sent to court. According to the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office, Rosca would have asked for  €1 million from the manager of a commercial organization for influencing a court decision so that this was favorable to the businessman in an economic case, IPN reports.

The investigation was opened following a self-denouncing statement made by the involved firm manager. In December 2009, the accused would have asked and received foreign currency totaling US$ 117,000 from the businessman. After the court passed an unfavorable judgement in February 2010, the accused asked for and received another US$ 110,000 so as to solve the problem.

The politician faces a fine of 200,000 to 300,000 lei or three to seven years in jail.

The prosecutor rejected the denouncer’s application to recognize him as an injured and civil party so as to get the money back as the legislation provides that in case of influence peddling, the transmitted amounts are confiscated for the benefit of the state.

The money found during searches at Rosca’s office, in the amount of about 250,000 lei, and realty worth about 2.4 million lei were sequestrated.
