Communist MP Iurie Muntean said Prime Minister Vlad Filat made no contribution to the US$262 million Compact agreement signed recently by the Government of Moldova and the Millennium Challenge Corporation. “The steps towards signing the agreement were made by Former Premier Zinaida Greceanyi, who Filat was to invite to the signing ceremony in Washington,” Muntean said in a news conference on February 10, Info-Prim Neo reports. “I think Missis Greceany deserved being invited,” Muntean said. “The Filat Government did not negotiate the Compact program, but only signed the agreement that was to be signed in September 2009, when the Greceanyi Government was in power. Its signing was postponed owing to the change of power in Chisinau,” said former Deputy Minister of Economy Iurie Muntean. The agreement to finance Moldova's US$262 million Compact was signed in Washington on January 22, 2010. The five-year, economic development grant is designed to improve irrigation infrastructure and management; increase the production and marketing of high value agricultural products; and rehabilitate part of the country’s national road network.
