Ex-Premier Iurie Leanca said the installation of a minority government means a step backward in the European integration process. “In this period of crisis, a minority government is a proof of irresponsibility given that this minority government wasn’t a necessity, but a choice,” the Lib-Dem said after Parliament gave a vote of confidence to the new Cabinet, IPN reports.

Iurie Leanca stated that this government will fully depend on the Party of Communists with whose assistance the Government was invested. “I don’t think the PCRM changed indeed. I saw no commitment on the part of the PCRM for offering constant support to the Government. It is a day when the PCRM takes revenge on the pro-European parties. It is yet more serious that they take revenge on the people. This thing was visible when a minister was changed owing to a caprice of the Communists,” he said.

The MP also said that last November, some people advised him to leave the Liberal Democratic Party. “I decided not to leave the party in an important period. I promise I will fulfill the commitments assumed in the electoral period. I insisted on the creation of a majority pro-European coalition. Now that a minority government was voted in, Moldova was placed in a zone of uncertainty,” he stated.

The politician voiced hope that the new Government will manage to keep the country inside an upward trend. As regards his political future, Iurie Leanca said he will take a decision in the near future.

On February 18, Parliament gave a vote of confidence to the Government headed by Chiril Gaburici. A number of 60 MPs of the PLDM, PCRM and PDM voted for the new Cabinet.
