Iurie Leanca reiterates commitment to implement Association Agreement in Brussels

While on his first working visit to Brussels, Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Iurie Leanca reiterated the Moldovan Government’s firm commitment to implement the Association Agreement and to do the reforms deriving from the European agenda. He also asked for assistance from the European Union in achieving the objective of interconnecting the Republic of Moldova to the European gas and power networks, IPN has learned from the Government’s press service.

In the discussions, European Commission Vice President for Energy Union Maroš Šefčovič underlined the importance of fully transposing the Third Energy Package and ensuring the independence of the National Agency for Energy Regulation. The European official stressed the necessity of combining forces to ensure energy security by analyzing the cooperation perspectives in the energy, energy efficiency and renewable energy sectors.

In another meeting, European Commission Vice President for the Euro and Social Dialogue Valdis Dombrovskis encouraged the Moldovan authorities to continue to do reforms, in particular in such sectors as justice, the fight against corruption and strengthening of the banking system. There was underlined the necessity of fully investigating the banking frauds and the importance of the assessment mission of the Directorate General for Economic and Financial Affairs, planned for the start of February. This will assess the fulfillment of the conditions included in the first part of the macro-financial assistance program.

Iurie Leanca invited Valdis Dombrovskis to visit the Republic Moldova.
