Iurie Leanca has announced his defection from the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) and the Liberal-Democratic parliamentary group. Over the next few days, he will launch a new pro-European political project, without Voronin and without the Communists. The former Premier said his views no longer coincide with those of the PLDM, which became ‘hostage of the whims of Voronin and the PCRM’, IPN reports.

In a news conference on February 26, Iurie Leanca stated that an option was to remain a member of the PLDM and make effort to reform it from inside, but he didn’t have full support for this. As he does not have money for creating a new party, he will launch first a political project that will be financed with people’s contributions. “We will spend as much money as we will have. I personally do not have money,” said the politician. He noted he will soon say who supports him in this project and what activities they will focus on.

Speaking about the political events of last week, when the Gaburici Government was invested, Iurie Leanca said he witnessed the confirmation of a partnership between the PLDM, PDM and PCRM, which reached a relevant agreement long ago. The PLDM and PDM didn’t want to form a coalition with the PL and thus delayed the negotiation process, invoking different pretexts.

Iurie Leanca also spoke about his relationship with the leader of the PLDM Vlad Filat, saying it started to worsen when he was named Prime Minister. Vlad Filat didn’t agree with the way in which the state institutions began to work.

The former Premier noted he will monitor the Government’s work. “I will warn Chiril Gaburici about the risks he takes. If somebody thinks that they control the Government and can do what they want, they should better reduce their interests,” he stated.

The PLDM fielded another candidate for premiership after the Leanca II Government didn’t garner the number of votes of MP needed to be installed. The Government headed by businessman Chiril Gaburici was invested with the votes of the Liberal-Democratic, Democratic and Communist MPs. Only Lib-Dems Iurie Leanca and Eugen Carpov didn’t vote for it.
