The candidate for President of the European People’s Party of Moldova (PPEM) Iurie Leanca decided to remain in the electoral race. In a news conference, the candidate explained that if he leaves, the risk that the Party of Socialists’ candidate Igor Dodon will win the elections by the first round will be bigger, IPN reports.

Iurie Leanca said he decided to stay in the race in order to build Moldova’s future. “For the first round, it is very important for the pro-European candidates to mobilize all those who are ready to vote for them. Not all my supporters are ready to vote for Maia Sandu,” he stated.

The PPEM candidate said he earlier thought to withdraw from the electoral race in favor of Maia Sandu, but after the Democratic Party’s candidate Marian Lupu announced his withdrawal, he understood that if he does the same, Igor Dodon’s chances of winning the elections by one round will increase significantly.

“I call on all the Moldovans, regardless of their political preferences, supporters of the left or the right, Liberals or Democrats, unionists and all those who think that Moldova belongs in Europe to support me. I offer the third path. I offer solutions and reason,” said the candidate.

According to Iurie Leanca, the Republic of Moldova needs a President who will unite the country and will build the future. To build a prosperous country, the European course, the Association Agreement and the visa-free regime with the EU must be kept.
