Prime Minister Iurie Leanca, in an interview for the French publication “Politique Internationale”, said he is ready to head the future Cabinet if he is requested to, noting that the mentality is the greatest obstacle he faces in his work, IPN reports.

“As regards the fight against corruption, we must change the state of mind of the Moldovans. In this respect, we count on the EU’s support, including through a mission of European judges to Moldova. After the elections, we will become involved in profound reforms in a number of sectors. We have the chance to create a real parliamentary system, with political parties that manage to work together and to reach compromises. We are growing more mature politically,” said the Premier.

Iurie Leanca insisted that the accession to the EU is a project to modernize the country, which does not have an alternative. “The experience of the East and West shows the best that the European integration is the best method to develop, to restore the people’s confidence and to reform the justice sector. This Association Agreement is in the interest not only of Moldova society, but also of the whole Europe. Owing to it, Moldova will become more prosperous and stable,” he stated.

He added that we now cannot fulfill all the conditions for joining the EU, but when Moldova becomes a candidate country, the reforms will become irreversible. “Security will be strengthened. I want to note that this agreement wasn’t signed against Russia. A stable and predictable Moldova is in Russia’s interests. We have close historical ties with Russia, but these are not weaker than those with Europe, including France. The signing of the accord was like a return to the great European family to which we belong culturally and geographically,” he said.

He also said that more than 70% of the products from the Transnistrian region are intended for the Moldova market and the European market. After the creation of the Free Trade Area with the EU, the number of applicants for Moldovan passports in Transnistria grew significantly. The entrepreneurs from there are interested in this regime as they realized that it is favorable to them. The country could be reunified based on these factors.

Speaking about the situation in Ukraine, Iurie Leanca said it affects Moldova’s economy and especially the sprits of the Moldovan people, who 20 years ago witnessed an armed conflict on the country’s territory.
