Prime Minister Iurie Leanca said the European integration, which is the most ambitious project to modernize Moldova, covers the entire country, not only Chisinau. He made the statement in the opening of the third EU – Moldova Forum that is taking place in Balti on June 19 – 20, IPN reports.

According to the Government’s press service, the Premier said the major goals of the European project are to create workplaces, to develop the socioeconomic and human potential, to determinedly fight corruption and to join the EU de facto and de jure.

“The European development model chosen by us meets the best the desideratum of modernizing the Republic of Moldova. Any responsible government must choose a credible and viable development project for the country and the people. But no society and no state system can be changed overnight and Moldova is not an exception. That’s why we regard June 27 as a new start – the launch of vast, swift and coherent reforms expected by everyone,” said the Premier.

Federal Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany Gerd Müller, who was in Chisinau on a visit and attended the forum, congratulated Moldova on the results achieved in the European integration process. “Moldova has a European prospect. It has always been part of the European Union’s history. Moldova is also the future of the EU. Germany supports Moldova. We want to help you modernize the country,” he stated, adding that the Federal Cabinet recently gave its consent for Moldova to sign the Association Agreement with the EU.

Also in Balti, there was signed a document concerning Moldovan-German consultations on cooperation for development. The proceedings were signed after Chisinau on June 17 hosted intergovernmental negotiations in this respect. In this connection, Germany decided to increase the technical and financial assistance provided to Moldova for implementing water supply and wastewater treatment projects in rural areas, modernizing the local public services, strengthening the public administration capacities and creating national metrology and quality control infrastructure of a high quality.
