The conclusions of the Foreign Affairs Council of the EU reveal the European Union’s support and the fact that the Republic of Moldova counts a lot for the EU, Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Iurie Leanca stated in the talk show “Issue of the day” on Canal2 channel, IPN reports.

Iurie Leanca said the EU is ready to continue to support the Republic of Moldova and to assist it in the modernization process, in solving the faced problems as it wants to build a zone of stability in the country. “The document is a balanced and objective one. It is a realistic analysis of what happened in our country in the recent past, in the past about two years, and surely points to the areas where a lot of work is yet to be done,” he stated.

According to Iurie Leanca, compared with the similar report of 2016, the current report contains more positive elements. More reforms initiated by the Government are assessed positively, such as the macro-economic situation, consolidation of the baking system, creation of institutions designed to fight corruption, the growth in bilateral trade with the EU. “As regards the signals for us, there are named the areas that we also know as problematic for now. If we had been perfect, we would have been now a member state of the European Union,” he said.

The Foreign Affairs Council of the European Union on February 26 reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening political association and economic integration between the EU and Moldova by working in close partnership, but underlined that for this support to be credible, the Moldovan authorities should do more real reforms, especially in the corruption fighting, justice and economic sectors.
