The leader of the European People’s Party of Moldova Iurie Leanca, who was fielded by the party for President, on September 8 submitted an application to the Central Election Commission (CEC), asking it to pronounce on the content of informative materials disseminated by the Party of Socialists (PSRM), which, according to him, incite hatred towards Romania, IPN reports.
“I came to notify the CEC of electoral informative materials spread by the Party of Socialists. They are called “Romanian gendarmerie will not be a master here”. These informative materials insult a part of the population of the Republic of Moldova. They incite hatred and enmity,” stated Iurie Leanca, noting that these also incite hatred towards Romania, which is not a simple partner and friend, but is also an EU member state.
The politician said the electoral leaflets disseminated by Igor Dodon all over Moldova promote a false theme whose goal is to cause discord among the people. He requested the Commission to class these materials as illegal and to oblige the Socialists to withdraw them.
CEC president Alina Russu said the electoral authority will examine the application and will later take a decision.
The Party of Socialists’ executive secretary Vlad Batrancea on his Facebook page wrote that those materials were made public earlier. “I recommend Leanca to more often check his mailbox as those materials were spread in spring and summer, within the PSRM’s campaign against unionists’ actions. The party’s candidate for President Igor Dodon will publicize his electoral message in October, as the law provides,” wrote the MP.
