The Communists are cheating when they say that Marian Lupu is a traitor as he did not change his political doctrine, but only his view, historian, writer and researcher Iurie Colesnic, who is an MP of the Alliance for European Integration (AEI) and the vice president of the Moldova Noastra Alliance, said during a program on the radio station “Vocea Basarabiei”, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
According to Colesnic, the Communists are afraid to vote for Marian Lupu as head of state as they could cause a mass exodus of the supporters of the Communists to the Democratic Party (PD) and a transfer of image from Vladimir Voronin to Marian Lupu. Many of the Communist sympathizers voted for the PCRM only because Lupu was then a member of this party.
Iurie Colesnic said that Marian Lupu is a powerful leader and a politician with prospects. He has intellectual potential and all the abilities needed to be a good head of state.
If early elections were held, the PD would attract many supporters of the Communists. The 13% of the vote polled by the PD in the July 29 early elections show that Marian Lupu is popular with the voters who earlier supported the PCRM.
It is not yet known how the Communists will act in the created situation. The AEI will try in continuation to carry out talks with the PCRM as the situation in the country is difficult and new early elections will be a too heavy burden for Moldova. Colesnic said that the AEI has two plans to unblock the situation – one for the near future and a long-term one. “In Moldova, they count on the continuity of the government and maintenance of the balance inside the AEI. The Communists lose rating. They do not have a leader. Voronin is a leader of the past. The new early elections could represent a disastrous fall for them,” Iurie Colesnic said.
