Former deputy prime minister Nicu Popescu, ex-minister of foreign affairs and European integration, said that as the October 20 referendum approaches, there are voices saying that “it’s not the right time”. For them, the former minister has a question, namely: When will be the right time? According to him, Moldova already missed too many chances and opportunities and can no longer repeat the mistakes of the past, especially now, when it has international openness and leaders who put its interests at the forefront, IPN reports.
“European integration has been talked about for decades, but we have always missed trains – in 2004, in 2010 and then in 2016. Now, however, we have a rare window of opportunity, both domestically and regionally. Now is the time to mobilize, to be determined and to complete forever our European path. Opportunities like this appear seldom and, if there is another one, it will not appear too soon,” said Nicu Popescu.
According to the former deputy prime minister, those who say that “the time is not opportune” are probably pursuing interests that are not related to the good of the citizens. In his opinion, saying “no” now means rejecting the accession to the European Union, saying “no” to peace, prosperity and a secure future for the country.
“In the current geopolitical context, which is far too dangerous, we cannot offer time and opportunities to those who want to take us back to the past. That is why I urge everyone to join forces, not to allow to be influenced and not to miss this unique opportunity,” said the former foreign minister.
