The Ambassador of the Italian Republic in Chisinau Valeria Biagiotti, who is completing her duties in Moldova, said she is leaving the country with a powerful feeling of attachment and a positive opinion about Moldova and the Moldovan citizens. When she returns to Italy, she will do her best to make Moldova known there, to encourage and arouse the Italians’ curiosity to visit Moldova when the conditions permit. In an interview for IPN, the official said she is yet leaving Moldova with a feeling of sadness and also of hope and with wishes for a prosperous future for all the Moldovan citizens, with the possibility of returning for the Moldovans who settled abroad, but want to come back.

Valeria Biagiotti said the adjustment on new missions is difficult, but the mission to the Republic of Moldova was a special one as she was named ambassador here for the first time. She took over a body with a number of responsibilities, but also with increased autonomy compared with the previous missions.

Unlike the previous experiences as part of international organizations in Strasbourg and New York, this time she had more direct contacts with the local reality and this was a kind of remedy for overcoming the difficulties related to the change. On this mission, she had direct contact with Moldova and aimed to know the citizens, local realities etc.

Valeria Biagiotti noted that Moldova hosts both Italian businesspeople and persons who decided to move here, even pensioners, also because they have a Moldovan husband or wife. The Italian community is well integrated and its members are glad to make this country known and to promote it. As regards the business community, the businesspeople hope and want Moldova to be able to ensure a more favorable climate for investment by stepping up the efforts against corruption, for doing the justice sector reform and adopting other reforms that were always encouraged by the European Union, including by signing the Association Agreement.

The ambassador said that during the last year she was unable to implement a number of projects left for the end of her mandate owing to the pandemic. These projects cover a number of sectors, such as culture, design, cuisine, the reception on the Italian National Day, events that enable to promote Italy’s values.

“I would like to thank Moldova, the Moldovans here or in Italy, for their hospitality and for the feeling of affection that I felt during these years. I was able to know exceptional, competent persons who do their job with devotion regardless of the difficulties, the limited resources, etc. I will definitely return to Moldova as soon as possible, when the pandemic situation permits,” stated Valeria Biagiotti.

Ambassador Biagiotti transmitted a message of hope and encouragement, inviting everyone to become agents of change, starting from themselves, from the own office, house, locality, so as to bring about changes and built a better future for them and for the country.
