Italy has donated four emergency vehicles for Moldovan rescuers and firefighters, IPN reports.

Lorenzo Tomassoni, Italy’s ambassador to Moldova, said during the handover ceremony that Italy supports Moldova’s efforts and commitment in managing the influx of refugees coming from Ukraine.

One month ago, Italy donated 20 tons of goods to Ukrainian refugees sheltered by Moldova. One week later, Italy donated another 500 tents to Ukrainian refugees. Italy has provided assistance under the European Union’s Civil Protection Mechanism, a mechanism that was activated as a matter of urgency just the day after the start of the war in Ukraine, on February 25, Lorenzo Tomassoni said.

“We the Italians are really proud to be part of Team Europe and to be with Moldova, so that together we can deal with the state of emergency and so that we can carry out rescue actions. Together, Moldovans and Italians, we are stronger”, added the ambassador.

According to the Italian diplomat, the ministries of internal affairs in Chisinau and Rome are working together on a global medium-term police cooperation program. “Since the beginning of this war, we have added a new chapter to our cooperation in response to the needs of the people affected by the war. My hope is that the brave firefighters in Moldova and Italy will continue to help each other, to learn from each other, even after this horrible war, which we hope will end soon”, Lorenzo Tomassoni underlined.

Alexandru Oprea, head of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, said that this is the third time since the start of the war in Ukraine that Italy has provided support for the management of the refugee influx. “It is an example of European solidarity, when states help each other, when one of the countries needs this help”, the IGSU chief stressed.
