The President of the Italian Senate Pietro Grasso said that Moldova is of strategic importance for maintaining balance in Southeastern Europe. He made such a statement in a meeting with Head of Parliament Igor Corman, who had been in Italy on an official visit, IPN reports.
According to a communiqué from Parliament, the two officials discussed the bilateral relations and Moldova’s European integration agenda in the context of the taking over by Italy of the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union on July 1.
They pleaded for strengthening and diversifying the cooperation between Moldova and Italy, especially between the legislative bodies of the two states, the specialized commissions and the friendship groups.
Currently, there are about 600 companies with Italian capital in Moldova.
