The leader of the Party of Communists Vladimir Voronin said that the referendum of October 20 is unconstitutional and meaningless. The former head of state urges the electors to vote “No” in the plebiscite. “In one ballot, you choose the candidate you trust, except Sandu, and in the second ballot, you vote “No”. By doing this, you will not become co-participants in the destruction and demolition of our state,” the Communist leader said, quoted by IPN.

The ex-President accuses the current government of not needing a sovereign, neutral, independent and peaceful Moldova. “They lie to you in the most shameless way that through this referendum the citizens will have the opportunity to pronounce “For” or “Against” Moldova’s entry into the European Union. The first purpose of this unconstitutional referendum is nothing more than a scam aimed at securing, at any cost, the re-election as President of this woman, who did not assert herself as a personality and even more as a President of the country,” said Vladimir Voronin.

According to the PCRM leader, the second purpose of the plebiscite is “more terrible, because, with the help of this referendum, those who are in power want to obtain the right to mock the Constitution, to change it as they please, but also as the West had instructed them, to do so even if they do not have a constitutional majority.”

“We have the possibility to stop this gang of state criminals, of state traitors, and to prevent the national catastrophe they can cause. For this, on October 20 we must also vote against Maia Sandu, and against this anti-people, anti-state regime. And we must answer “against” the question posed in this referendum,” stated Vladimir Voronin.

The Party of Communists is one of the two referendum campaigners that were registered with the “No” option. The other 13 participants plead for the Republic of Moldova’s accession to the EU.

The constitutional referendum on joining the EU will be held on October 20, simultaneously with the presidential election. Voters will answer “Yes” or “No” the question: “Are you for amending the Constitution so as to enshrine the Republic of Moldova’s accession to the European Union in it?”.
