It is inadmissible to restrict the foreign journalists’ entry into the Republic of Moldova, MP Corneliu Mihalache, who forms part of the parliamentary commission on culture, education, research, youth, sport and the mass media, stated in the talk show “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.

The MP considers that even if journalist Irada Zeynalova, presenter of the Russian channel NTV, could not provide documents to confirm her intention to conduct an interview with President Igor Dodon, it wasn’t right to refuse her entry into Moldova.

“When the entry into Moldova was restricted for particular Russian politicians and opinion leaders, that was a right step as many of these intended to reach Transnistria and to promote particular interests there,” stated Corneliu Mihalache.

Sergiu Ostaf, director of the Resource Center for Human Rights, said the right of a person to enter a foreign country is not an absolute right. This is conditional and implies limitations that should be discussed in the context of each separate case.

Media nongovernmental organizations issued a statement by which they express their concern about the Border Police’s decision to refuse entry to two foreign journalists recently. These consider such movement limitations run counter to the democratic norms and negatively affect the free flow of information.
