Romania attentively follows the developments related to the presidential elections in the Republic of Moldova and took note of the qualification of two candidates for the runoff vote: president of the Party of Action and Solidarity Maia Sandu and incumbent President Igor Dodon. It is essential that the runoff vote be held in fully transparent conditions and in accordance with the European and international standards. Romania will continue to follow all the field assessments of national and international electoral observers and will not hesitate to signal any deficiency in the process of organizing the elections, IPN reports, quoting a press release of Romania’s Embassy in Chisinau.
“As it is well-known, Romania firmly supports the European course of the Republic of Moldova, which is the only one that can offer its citizens the deserved prosperity,” runs the press release.
Romania expresses its conviction that the people’s will that is expressed freely by vote is the only one that can ensure the legitimacy of such a political process in a democratic state and warns that any deviation from these standards and principles can have an unfavorable impact on the legitimacy of elections.
