A batch of IT equipment worth US$ 1.41 million was donated to the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection. The equipment, intended for frontline workers of the social assistance system, was purchased by UNICEF with the financial support of the UK Government, IPN reports.

Minister Alexei Buzu noted during the event that over 1,400 units of high-performance IT equipment are donated for all social workers, child protection specialists and those who work on the front line and provide support to the population of Moldova. He noted that it is hard to ensure effective intervention in the absence of access to an information system, and thanked the donors for their support.

Maha Damaj, UNICEF Moldova Country Representative, said the donation comes to help the system to work better, for the benefit of vulnerable families in the country. The goal is to reduce gaps in the system so that data can be collected more easily. Keeping track of data in electronic format will allow a better analysis of them and ensure the provision of efficient services to those who need them.

Pippa Brown, humanitarian adviser at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), noted that a lot of work is dedicated to the child protection system in Moldova. According to her, many efforts have been made lately from the perspective of technical assistance, from the perspective of capacity building, efforts at administrative level so that the current donation is useful. The equipment will be very useful in data management to ensure the digitization of services.

Community social worker Larisa Ilașcu said that this IT equipment represents an investment in the safety and wellbeing of communities. Such initiatives raise the quality standards in the field of social protection.
