The new Minister of Justice Olesea Stamate took the oath of office and was presented to colleagues in the morning of June 24. Prime Minister Maia Sandu noted it depends on the new minster of justice how independent, correct and solid justice in the Republic of Moldova will be, IPN reports.

Maia Sandu said Olesea Stamate wants to contribute and can contribute to changing things in the justice sector. The restoration of the people’s confidence in a better future at home depends on the regaining of confidence in justice. “We have very big expectations of the area for which you are responsible, but you can count on our support in your work so that we do things together,” stated the Premier.

In the swearing-in ceremony, President Igor Dodon wished success to the minister, saying the expectations of her are very big, but he is sure she will cope given the rich experience she has.

For her part, Olesea Stamate said the justice sector is the first that signals if things in the country go right or wrong. A person cannot change things along and needs a powerful team, but she is sure she will find such a team at the ministry.

Olesea Stamate was named minister of justice after Stanislav Pavlovski resigned on reasons related to personal incompatibilities.

Olesea Stamate is a lawyer. She has a master’s degree in advanced European studies from the College of Europe and graduated from the Faculty of Law of the State University of Moldova. She is specialized in justice, internal affairs and the central public administration reform. She earlier worked for the Soros Foundation Moldova and later as an expert for different projects, with the State Chancellery, the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Education being among the beneficiaries. She has over ten years’ experience in management and assessment of projects.
