The problem of Moldovan medical staff’s migration is in the limelight of the World Health Organisation (WHO). The Regional Director of the WHO European Office, Dr. Marc Danzon, on a visit to Chisinau, stated during a meeting with President Vladimir Voronin that Moldova, along with other European eastern countries, confronts with the problem of medical staff’s migration to more developed countries, while the identification of certain solutions in this respect is a priority for the Regional Office.
The official appreciated the relations established between Moldova and WHO as very good, expressing the organisation’s readiness to further support the process of reforms in the health protection system of Moldova.
The President has pointed out the positive dynamics of the state’s allocations in the sphere of health care, specifying that in 2006 the consolidated budget in the given field increased fourfold, compared to the respective indexes in 2001. At the same time, the head of state mentioned the scarcity of resources for carrying out more important projects, underlining that in this regard the Moldovan authorities rely on the foreign donors’ support.
In the context, Voronin emphasised the projects intended for the reconstruction of the Republican Clinic Hospital, Emergency Hospital, TB Hospital in Vorniceni village, for the building of a Centre for diabetics, and model-hospitals in three raion centres.
