Israel provides 1,000 jobs in the construction sector for Moldovans, based on an agreement between the governments of the two states. Moldovan specialists are wanted at construction sites to erect apartment buildings, IPN reports.

“There is a great demand for apartments in Israel, but the supply is insufficient. As a result, the prices went up. We signed a similar agreement with Bulgaria. We hope to make the dwellings more accessible this way,” Israeli Ambassador to Moldova Oren David said in a news conference.

The workers will be selected by the National Employment Agency, through the agency of its local agencies. Priority will be given to persons registered in the institution’s database. The list of skilled workers will be sent afterward to the Government of Israeli, which will choose 1,000 candidates at random. The first group of workers will leave for Israel in July. The employment agreement is implemented in stages.

The participants in the program will cover the costs of medical examination, the identification record and the trip by plane to and from Israel. The selected workers will sign an employment contract for a year with an Israeli company. The workers can ask to have the visa legalized for a period of three years and a half since the first entry into Israel.

The gross minimum monthly salary is about US$1,500 for 211 working hours. The workers will be paid additionally for every extra hour worked. Besides the pay, the employing company will monthly pay 700 shekels (US$190) into a bank account of the Immigration Authority of Israel, for compensations and pensions, in the name of the workers. This sum will be paid to the workers, together with the interest, when they leave Israel. The employer must also subtract monthly 500 shekels (US$140) from the worker’s salary for accommodation and associated costs, depending on the geographic area where the workers stay.

Moldova signed a similar agreement with the Government of Italy, which is being implemented. According to the National Employment Agency, in Moldova there are over 1,500 unemployed workers specialized in constructions. About 3,000 Moldovans work legally in Israel at present.
