Representatives of the organizations that form part of the civic platform “Chisinau Accessible to Everyone” identified bumps, holes, unadjusted ramps and public transport stations when inspecting Mircea cel Bătrân Blvd to see how accessible it is, IPN reports.

After the checks, Vitalie Meșter, executive director of the Center for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, said there is no tactile paving for the blind at all the crosswalks and along public transport stations. The curbs in crosswalks are not downed and there are bumps and holes on sidewalks. The ramps for passing from sidewalks to the roadway are improvised and only one traffic signal has a sound system. The sidewalks are not delimited from green areas.

The bicycle tracks on Mircea cel Bătrân Blvd were painted green and the contrast between the tracks and the rest of the pedestrian way was ensured, but these tracks should have a different top layer so that the persons with visual impairments feel with the leg that there are bicycle tracks there and they avoid being hurt.

The civic platform “Chisinau Accessible to Everyone” will transmit a plan of action for making the municipality of Chisinau more accessible to the authorities.

The inspection of Mircea cel Bătrân Blvd forms part of a series of audit activities to determine pedestrian mobility in the municipality carried out by the civic platform “Chisinau Accessible to Everyone”
