A number of candidates running for the posts of mayor and local councilors in the May 19 elections spent money in the campaign without submitting financial reports, as stipulated in the regulations. The monitoring covered the period between April 7 and 30 and was carried out by Promo-LEX within the Civic Coalition for Free and Fair Elections, IPN reports.

According to Promo-LEX, no candidate informed the electoral district bodies and the Central Election Commission about the opening of special bank accounts titled “Electoral Fund”. But the observers of Promo-LEX established that the candidates incurred costs. Promo-LEX remains concerned about the offering of electoral presents by candidates or to them and about the use of administrative resources.

Another concern is related to the fact that a large part of the citizens with the right to vote, who hold Soviet-type passports, will be unable to take part in the Mau 19 elections following the recent changes made to the legislation.

New elections on May 19 will take place in Chetrosu village of Anenii Noi district; Manta, Cahul; Oliscani, Soldanestil; Visoca, Soroca, and in Mincenii de Jos, Rezina.
