The governor of the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia Irina Vlah said there are a number of risks related to the campaign preceding the local governor elections that started on May 1. According to her, the election results could be unrecognized and this is one of the risks, IPN reports.
“There can be many risks. When we prepared for this campaign, we could not imagine that attempts would be made to modify the composition of the local Central Election Composition and that the electoral legation would be amended in the election campaign. There were many unexpected, force majeure situations,” the governor stated in the talk show “Key issue” on NTV Moldova channel.
According to Irina Vlah, some of the candidates could be prevented from running and the election outcome could be invalidated. “These risks exist and for us it is very important that the campaign be held in accordance with the law, be honest and open,” said the governor.
Irina Vlah noted she already prepared the electoral program and will familiarize the voters with this when she is officially registered as an election contender. If she wins the next term in office, her key task will be to stop migration. For the purpose, she will present a concrete program of action to the inhabitants of Gagauzia.
Among other points of her electoral program are the development of local infrastructure, attraction of investment to education and healthcare and implementation of social programs.
The campaign prior to the Gagauzia governor elections was kicked off on May 1. The set of documents for registering initiative groups that will collect signatures in support of candidates can be now submitted. According to the Central Election Commission of Gagauzia, the first aspirants for the post of governor (Bashkan), among whom incumbent governor Irina Vlah and independent candidate Vasilie Aladov, filed the required documents on May 1. Mihail Vlah presented the documents for having his initiative group registered.
