Four year into her incumbency, Irina Vlah is proud to say she has overcome challenges to deliver results in every field of her activity.

During an event today marking her four years in office, and featuring the presence of President Igor Dodon, the governor of the Gagauz autonomy said she has overseen the creation of more than 2,000 jobs during this period. This was due to significant foreign investment being attracted, and to support being offered to small and mid-sized enterprises.

With agriculture being a priority, Vlah says 99% of the autonomy’s farmland is put to good use, and, after a long break, Gagauz winemakers have finally been able to resume exports to Russia.

Gagauzia’s revenue has increased considerably, says Vlah, making it possible to fund tens of infrastructure projects like school repairs, road rehabilitation, street lighting installation or water supply projects.

One objective that the incumbent governor has fulfilled integrally was opening five new kindergartens.

President Igor Dodon praised Gagauzia as “Moldova’s jewel of the South”. “However, there is a lot of work to be done together to improve things in the social field, in economy, and in the relationship with the central authorities”, stated Igor Dodon.

The president also endorsed Vlah’s re-election bid. “Let us not waste energy, because the outcome of this election is pretty clear – Irina Vlah shall emerge victorious out of this campaign, which starts already tomorrow”, Dodon urged supporters and opponents alike.

In 2015, Irina Vlah won her current term by a landslide, netting slightly over 51% already in the first round. Shown by polls as the favorite, her re-election seem certain, even if the election day has been rescheduled by the autonomy’s parliament from May 19 to June 30.
