October 1: The Strategy “Chisinau Green City”, which forms part of the framework plan for green cities, was presented at the 2022 Economic Forum “Invest in Chisinau”. The goal of the strategy is to improve the ecological performance and social and economic conditions in the capital city. Among the main subjects discussed in the event were the modernization of the water supply and sewerage networks, protection and development of green urban areas, rehabilitation of the Byk River, energy sustainability and efficiency and waste management.
October 4: A new trolleybus route, no. 33, is opening in Chisinau on Tuesday, linking the city center to the suburban town of Durlești, the City Hall announced in a press release.
October 4: The Volunteer Days are taking place in the municipality of Chisinau until October 15. Different activities for young people will be staged at Youth Centers in Chisinau, such as training sessions, competitive games and quizzes. “By all the panned activities, we aim to promote the civic spirit of the young people,” Petru Grecu, director of the municipal Youth Center, has told.
October 5: Works to reinforce the protection embankment are carried out at the municipal waste dump in Țânțăreni. This is the second stage of the project financed by the Chisinau City Hall in cooperation with the National Ecological Fund. The first stage included the building of wells with concrete, placing of 50 stabilization poles and making of the temporary road on the embankment and of the platform on which vehicles turn back. Currently, the existing metallic pipes are being dismantled and will be replaced with reinforced concrete pipes through which pluvial water and leachate collected in gutters will be taken away.
October 7: The address will be written with paint on apartment buildings in the capital city by the end of October, on the initiative of the General Public Amenities Division. The goal is to lend a hand to the emergency services and the citizens. In total, the addresses will be written with reflective paint on 2,841 blocks in all the districts of Chisinau. The characters will be about 25 cm in height. The blocks are managed by municipal housing enterprises and associations and do not have the address written on them.
October 14: Hundreds of people went on Friday to the center of the capital city to celebrate Chisinau City’s Day. The residents and guests of Chisinau could visit exhibitions, fairs and other events staged in the square of the Metropolitan Cathedral “God’s Birth” and in the Great National Assembly Square. The performances given on the central stage involved a large number of artist groups and singers. Twenty-six personalities from the field of culture were awarded by the Chisinau City Hall on the occasion of the event. Ion Ceban conferred the title of Citizen of Honor of Chisinau on Ludmila Scalnyi and Tatiana Harghel. On Chisinau City’s Day, the National Creation Center “Buciumul Moldovan Village” was reopened after renovation.
October 14: Ten swings were placed on Grigore Vieru Alleyway in the capital city. On Chisinau City’ Day, children and grownups could use the new furniture to enjoy themselves. “We have a new delightful project that was implemented on Grigore Vieru Alley in the capital city – swings for children and adults, for all those who prefer alley walks. Ten swings were set up there. Our city develops! This is what we always wanted! We want comfort and beauty to be at home in Chisinau! The nice projects should continue!” said the General Public Amenities Division.
October 18: Young people aged between 14 and 35 from the capital city will be able to attend the Municipal Youth Center opened in the center of Chisinau. The main branch is located at 90 Mitropolit Varlaam St. Teenagers can become involved in volunteering activities, can receive free psychological counseling, can spend the leisure time alongside other young people and can also take part in the activities of the local public administration. The opening of the new office included a volunteer gala in which volunteers who took part in the Marathon staged as part of the Volunteer Days in Chisinau during October 3 – 14 this year were awarded.
October 19: All the kindergartens in Chisinau on Wednesday will start to be connected to the heat supply. A decision to this effect was taken by the General Division of Education. Youth and Sport together with the Chisinau City Hall. “After examining the situation in rooms in kindergartens in the municipality of Chisinau, it was established that the average temperature in rooms in 129 preschools is 15.4 degrees Celsius. Also, 89 of the 129 preschools asked to be connected to the heat supply,” noted the Division.
October 19: Two new playgrounds were built in Râșcani Park of the capital city. The works to put together the third playground are close to completion. The three playgrounds were set up at the request of the Râșcani district head’s office as part of the project to modernize the park. The new playgrounds consist of slides, swings, figurines and other items.
October 19: The Municipal Library “B.P. Hasdeu” provides services and programs that substantially contribute to the cultural life of the city. It annually carries out over 5,000 programs and gathers together more than 50,000 participants. The library’s employees have always been preoccupied with connection to the city’s citizens of different ages, training, level of education and skills but who all need to be informed, the Library’s director Mariana Harjevschi stated in a conference held to celebrate the 145th anniversary of the founding of the institution.
October 20: The General Public Amenities Division has launched the project to build 30 playgrounds in yards of apartment buildings in Chisinau. The first playground was put up in the yard of the block situated at 12 Ciocana St. The second playground started to be built at 2/1 Sadoveanu St. Under the contract, the playgrounds are to be set up by the end of 2022. The company that executes the works was selected at a tender contest in accordance with the legislation. The investments as part of this project will come to about 7 million lei.
October 21: The intersection of Dacia Blvd with Băcioii Noi St is the first intersection in the municipality of Chisinau were the traffic lights were replaced with smart ones. The smart traffic lights are a vehicle traffic control system that combines traditional traffic lights with an array of sensors and artificial intelligence to intelligently route vehicle and pedestrian traffic, IPN reports. “To ensure the safety of pedestrians who cross the given intersection, the public transport stations are being relocated and sidewalks are being built. Pedestrian parapets will also be put up,” said the mayor of Chisinau Ion Ceban. He noted that this is one of the most dangerous intersections where 70% of the road accidents have a fatal ending, according to the police.
October 24: The vulnerable persons and families from Chisinau have access to social assistance in the form of services and benefits offered to prevent or overcome difficult situations. This year the budget of the General Medical and Social Assistance Division is 431 million lei. About 155 million lei will go on support and care services, which account for the largest part of the costs. The allocations from the municipal budget represent 82% of the Division’s budget. Marina Buga, deputy head of the General Medical and Social Assistance Division, said that social assistance is provided at request following the thorough examination of the needs of the person through the social inquiry and relevant documents. A person can learn about the assistance to which they are entitled by calling local social assistance divisions in each district of the municipality of Chisinau. The information is placed on the official website (of the Division, of the City Hall) and on social media. Informational brochures are annually distributed in public spaces.
October 25: The works to rehabilitated the square of the Metropolitan Cathedral “God’s Birth” in central Chisinau have started. The first stage includes the installation of the irrigation and video surveillance systems. The public lighting system and the fountains will be renovated. The total value of the project is €14 million lei. Half of the sum will be covered with the donation made by the Buzau County Council based on a cooperation agreement between the Chisinau City Hall and the Buzau County Council.
October 28: The municipal cleanup operator “Autosalubritate” will contract services to sort the solid waste gathered daily in the capital city for a period of five years. The integrated waste management system is to be optimized, as the Chisinau Municipal Council decided. The move will enable the company to fulfill the Law Waste provisions obliging the municipal cleanup operator to sort and recycle waste collected from waste storage platforms in the city, with a target of 30% being set. The volume of waste stored at the waste dump in Țânțăreni will be this way reduced and waste sorting culture and circular economy will be developed. The Council recently adopted a decision to build an active disintegration system at the temporary waste dump on Uzinelor St in Ciocana district, which was conserved in 2017.
October 29: Researches of Moldova and Romania found a number of graves dating from the 16th century and archeological vestiges dating from the e17th-19th centuries and from the interwar period. The vestiges were found close to the site of the Old Market of the Chisinau Fair where Municipal Maternity Hospital No. 2 is now located. The General Architecture, Urbanism and Land Relations Division said the found vestiges will be examined by specialists and will be later exhibited at the museum. The project to safeguard and examine the archeological heritage of the municipality of Chisinau is fully financed with municipal budget funds and is among the first investments made by the Chisinau City Hall in this sector.
