December 4: The Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) will come together for its first meeting on Thursday, December 7. The date was set by the Central Election Commission. The meeting of the Chisinau Municipal Council starts at 12 noon.
December 7: Newly registered enterprises can obtain managerial support, assistance services and consultative support at the first Municipal Business Incubator that was opened in Chisinau. Mayor general Ion Ceban said that through this project, the municipality aims to create opportunities for the young people from Chisinau to start businesses in the capital city. “We want this space to become youth-friendly and we are also thinking about other, more extended methods. We are working on a research and development concept with a larger space in Chisinau. We intend to find, for example, solutions of intervention through free economic zones and business relocation, including in connection with the developments in the East,” stated Ion Ceban.
December 7: At national level, each fourth teacher is aged over 50 years, while the young specialists represent only 10% of all the teachers. The authorities’ priority is to attract young specialists to the education system and to insert these in the professional formation process. The issues were raised in the municipal forum of young specialists working at educational institutions in the municipality of Chisinau.
December 7: The Chisinau City Hall will provide over 32,000 presents for children from early educational institutions. These will be distributed to preschools for being handed over to children during winter holiday performances. The General Division of Education, Youth and Sport purchased 32,167 presents for children of the 132 preschools of the municipality of Chisinau. The presents contain candies and biscuits.
December 7: The new Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) elected on November 5 was constituted. The first meeting of the new Council was held on Thursday and this was chaired by the oldest councilor, assisted by the youngest councilor attending the meeting. These are the councilors of the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) Galina Dragan and Daniel Rotaru. In the meeting, the seats of councilor were validated and the lists of substitute candidates were confirmed. The PAS and the “National Alternative Movement” Party have by 20 seats of councilor. The Party of Socialists has six councilors, the Party of Communists – two councilors, while the Revival Party, the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” and Our Party have by one councilor on the 51-member CMC.
December 8: The merits of the most active young people from the municipality of Chisinau were rewarded at the first Municipal Festival of Volunteers, which was held as part of the 2023 Youth Year celebrations. Twenty-two young volunteers of NGOs, youth centers and initiative groups were awarded. “I was glad to hear that over 50 applications were filed to the contest. This shows that there is interest in volunteering. That’s why we aim to turn the Municipal Festival of Volunteers in Chisinau into a tradition. In order to promote volunteering, the Chisinau City Hall, through the agency of Youth Centers of the capital city, offer young people the possibility of becoming involved in volunteering and of developing the skills needed in life,” said mayor general Ion Ceban.
December 9: Thousands of young people attended the “Cool Party” show, an event by the Chisinau City Hall that wrapped up the Year of Youth. The young people had fun together with the pop stars Aliona Moon and Satoshi, famous DJs, comedians and influencers. Mayor Ion Ceban promised that despite the Year of Youth coming to an end, the municipal projects for young people will continue and will grow in number.
December 9: Work is underway to plant eighteen new trees within and around Mihai Eminescu Square in central Chisinau to replace the old and dead ones, the City Hall announced. The trees being planted are 7-8-year-old Tilia Platyphyllos, or large-leaved lindens, the Green Spaces agency said.
December 11: The educational institutions in Chisinau are urged to use the artificial fir trees utilized the previous years so as to save money. The collection of funds for presents and for festivities is banned. In the weekly meeting of officials of municipal services, the head of the General Division of Education, Youth and Sport Andrei Pavaloi said the managers of educational institutions were advised to choose employees of the institution or parents for the role of Santa Claus if this is possible so as to avoid incurring additional costs for hiring actors.
December 11: The municipality has purchased cold asphaltic concrete to stop up street holes in Chisinau. In the ordinary meeting of officials of municipal services, the head of the General Urban Mobility Division Vitalie Mihalache said that the material supplied to the municipal road maintenance company Exdrupo is enough to patch the streets in the city and on roads of access to the suburban settlements served by municipal transport.
December 11: The Christmas Tree began to be installed in the Great National Assembly Square of Chisinau. Workers of the Green Arrears Association placed the body and started to fix the artificial branches on it and will later decorate the tree. December 12: The municipality of Chisinau has launched the second stage of the pilot-project to pay with card in public passenger transport. The project has been implemented in partnership with Moldova Agroindbank (MAIB) and Mastercard since 2021. The Chisinau City Hall said that by two more modern stationary validators have been installed in all the trolleybuses running on routes No. 22, 23, 24, and 30. This way, the municipal public transport will be equipped with about 150 validators.
December 13: The section of Ștefan cel Mare și Sfânt Blvd between the streets A. Pushkin and Ismail will be inaccessible to vehicle traffic between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on December 16 in connection with the holding of the social-sportive event “Christmas Marathon 2023”. According to the Chisinau City Hall, the municipal public transport that crosses the area will be diverted onto adjoining streets.
December 15: The preparations for the winter holidays in the central square are at their height. The fir tree was already installed and the lighting was placed. December 18: The tender contest to repair the section of 31 August St between the streets Alexandr Pushkin and Metropolitan Bishop Gavriil Bănulescu-Bodoni in central Chisinau will be announced after an urban planning certificate is obtained. The head of the General Urban Mobility Division Vitalie Mihalache said that an application to get the certificate was submitted and work was done with the team of experts to identify a solution to rehabilitate that section.
December 18: The students and teachers of “Grătieștiˮ Theoretical Lyceum will now enjoy better conditions of study and teaching following the completion of the municipal project to thermally insulate the three blocks of the school, including the boiler room, with ecological building and inoffensive material, IPN reports, with reference to the General Division of Education, Youth and Sport of Chisinau.
December 20: Children and parents are invited to get acquainted with the city of Chisinau together with Santa Claus through a trip by the tourist trolleybus during the winter holidays. According to the Chisinau City Hall, at the end of the trip the children will receive sweet surprises from Santa. The trip schedule is set for December 24, 25, 30, 2023 and January 7, 13 and 14, 2024.
December 21: The municipal bus route No. 24 “Tighina Street – Coloniţa village” has a new schedule. The buses will set off earlier and will run until later in the evening. The first route from Chisinau to Coloniţa will be at 05.00, while from Coloniţa to Chisinau – at 05.40. The last bus to leave from the suburban terminus to the capital city will be at 22.50, while from Chisinau to Coloniţa village – at 22.10.
December 21: The public transport that goes through the central square of Chisinau will run according to a special schedule on December 23 and December 31, when cultural-artistic events dedicated to the winter holidays will be staged, and also on January 6.

December 22: The Chisinau authorities have declared a situation of emergency in connection with bird flu outbreaks. Igor Crudu, head of the Chisinau Directorate within the National Food Safety Agency, said that outbreaks of H1N1 were detected in swan populations wintering in Moldova.
December 23: About 30 trolleybuses and four buses will be decorated with Christmas lights in Chisinau. The number is greater than in previous years, thanks to the municipality’s partnership with several local companies which helped with diversifying and renewing the festive decorations.
December 26: The extraordinary meeting of the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC), convened by the councilors of the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) for December 26, did not take place due to absence of a quorum. Only 15 local elected officials out of the 26 needed for the meeting to be deliberative were present in the hall. PAS councilor Zinaida Popa accused the councilors of other parties of not being interested in creating a comfortable city for the residents of Chisinau. Referring to the CMC meeting, Chisinau mayor general Ion Ceban, in the ordinary meeting of officials of municipal services, said it is regrettable that the PAS starts its work on the Council in an unconstructive and unproductive way.
December 26: Veaceslav Ioniță, expert of the Institute for Development and Social Initiatives “Viitorul”, believes that Chisinau will enter the new year without an approved budget. In his opinion, the document has not yet been approved because the Chisinau Municipal Council failed to form a coalition and did not reach a broader consensus. The 2024 budget must be a budget of a broad political consensus, focused on investments covered by new sources of revenue.
December 26: The turn of the year will be celebrated in the Great National Assembly Square of Chisinau on December 31 with a festive concert.
