More than 750 ionized radiation sources have been removed from a hospital and factories in Transnistria by five units of transport of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, IPN reports.
According to a communiqué from the Service, the radiation sources were stored in safe facilities and will be then disposed of in accordance with international regulations. The ionized radiation sources posed a danger to the people and environment in the Transnistrian region.
The OSCE Mission to Moldova financed the removal and worked with the authorities in Chisinau and Tiraspol to get an agreement on the removal and disposal of these hazardous materials.
