The shortage of specialists is the biggest problem faced by the government in the process of accession to the European Union, said political commentator Ion Tabîrță. According to him, the governments, regardless of their color, must seriously think about inviting specialists from Romania to ensure the quality of the European integration process. Even if the next government will be a coalition government, Moldova’s geopolitical movement towards the West has begun and it will be hard to thwart this process, IPN reports.

The political commentator noted that, most likely, the next government will be a coalition government as the period of monocolor governments comes to an end in the Republic of Moldova. According to the expert, a Eurosceptic government can stop the EU accession process, but it can no longer stop the country’s geopolitical movement towards the West.

“I don’t think we will yet have monocolor governments in the next period. Monocolor governments or one-party governments were an exception for Moldova rather than the norm. In the end, we will have a coalition. Coalitions are problematic, noisy, but they maintain a certain balance. The decision to launch accession negotiations is important because certain processes begin and the course of history can no longer be reversed. Yes, Moldova’s European path can still stagnate, but Moldova’s geopolitical movement towards the West has begun. In Romania, after 2013, the pro-European dynamics were lost. These dynamics were resumed only in 2021,” Ion Tabîrță stated in the program “Reflection Points” on Vocea Basarabiei station.

According to him, the lack of professionals to contribute to Moldova’s rapprochement with the European Union is a serious problem for the current government. Inviting specialists from Romania is a solution in this regard, following the example of appointment of Anca Dragu as governor of the National Bank of Moldova.

“We are discussing the European path of our state only because Ukraine resists in the war. If Ukraine hadn’t resisted and the Russian army had occupied Odessa and reached the border of the Republic of Moldova on the Transnistrian segment, things would have changed dramatically for us. Now, because Ukraine resists, even if anti-European forces come to power in the Republic of Moldova, we would be an enclave in a Western geopolitical space towards which Ukraine tends. For the Republic of Moldova, the human resources are the biggest problem in this process of European integration. There is already an acute shortage of specialists. We can criticize a lot the way in which Octavian Armașu was removed and a governor from Romania was named, but this is a scenario that any government will have to consider if it wants to get closer to the European Union - to bring specialists from Romania,” said the political commentator.

On December 22, 2023, by a decision adopted by Parliament, Anca Dragu was appointed governor of the National Bank of Moldova, chairwoman of the Supervisory Board and of the Executive Board for a seven-year term. Dragu obtained Moldovan citizenship a day before her appointment through a decree signed by President Maia Sandu.
