2025 will be the year of reformation of political power in Moldova and the November 5 general local elections were a first step in this regard, said political commentator Ion Tăbîrț. According to him, the political parties will use the geopolitical rhetoric at the 2025 elections and this is evident already. The results achieved in district and municipal councils show that the ruling party will not manage to obtain a majority in the future Parliament after the 2025 elections, IPN reports.
According to the preliminary results of the local elections, the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) obtained most of the seats in district and municipal councils in the November 5 local elections – 357. The Party of Socialists (PSRM) ranked second with 256 seats, while the European Social Democratic Party (PSDE) finished third with 88 seats.
“If we look at the vote in district and municipal councils, without the ATU Gagauzia, where non-European parties are usually voted, the PAS will not have a majority. It is interesting to see what happens to this PSDE as it would enter Parliament if we judge by the results of the local elections. In 2025, the political power will be reformed and everyone planned their election campaign based on this perspective. Geopolitical disputes are prefigured for 2025,” Ion Tăbîrță stated in the program “Reflection Points” on Vocea Basarabiei TV hannel.
According to the political commentator, the victory scored by Ion Ceban in the mayoral election in Chisinau was influenced by the surface changes made in the city.
“Notwithstanding the criticism of the four-year-tenure of Ion Ceban, he indeed didn’t change the essence of the development scheme of this city. Chisinau doesn’t yet have a clear development concept, but particular things, mostly surface ones, were changed - sidewalks, a park, a playground. These things weren’t done earlier and some of the citizens welcomed them. However, if we want to become a European city, much more is needed. The real test for Ion Ceban as a mayor starts now,” stated Ion Tăbîrță.
According to the data provided by the Central Election Commission, the National Alternative Movement’s candidate Ion Ceban gained 50.62% of the vote, while the PAS candidate Lilian Carp polled 28.23% of the ballot. The two parties won by 20 seats in the Chisinau Municipal Council.
