Moldova’s citizens associate left-wing parties with pro-Kremlin parties, but the European Social Democratic Party (PSDE) wants to create a pro-European left-wing pole. The party’s chairman Ion Sula said that his party is genuinely pro-European and will support the referendum on the introduction of the European course into the Constitution, IPN reports.

The PSDE leader noted that his party enjoys the support of PSD Romania in the creation of a pro-European left-wing pole.

“We are partners with the Social Democratic Party of Romania. With the resetting and renaming of the Democratic Party, we set the goal of creating an authentic European left in the Republic of Moldova. Often, the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, when they hear about left-wing parties, they associate them with pro-East, pro-Kremlin parties. That’s why PSD Romania supports us and we have a good partnership. We see that Romania is one of the main partners of the Republic of Moldova and the sustainability of the Republic of Moldova is largely due to this process. We want to develop a pro-European left-wing pole in the Republic of Moldova,” Ion Sula stated in the talk show “In Context” on Moldova 1 public TV channel.

The PSDE leader revealed that he had discussions with the National Alternative Movement regarding possible cooperation, but now the Social Democrats have their own agenda.

“We do not deny the fact that we had discussions. It was a dialogue. It is natural for any political party to have discussions with other parties. Today, PSDE has its own agenda and it is guided by statutory provisions. We are represented in the local government. Following the November elections, the PSDE is represented by 103 mayors. In some districts, our representatives form part of the administration of district councils. We want to return to power and together to contribute to the development of the Republic of Moldova,” said the chairman of the European Social Democratic Party.

Ion Sula also said that his party supports the referendum on the enshrining of the European development course into the Supreme Law. The PSDE mayors and members will campaign in favor of European integration and will explain to voters why it is necessary for Moldova to join the big European family.
