The goal is to create a pro-European pole of the left in the Republic of Moldova, said the chairman of the European Social-Democratic Party (PSDE) Ion Sula. According to him, the EU accession desideratum that is supported by the citizens makes the pro-European political parties aim to combine forces. Discussions are now being held with leaders of a number of pro-European forces. The PSDE at the local level will form alliances only with authentic pro-European forces, IPN reports.

Ion Sula either didn’t confirm or didn’t reject the reports that a merger between the PSDE and the National Alternative Movement led by Ion Ceban is being prepared. He said that they are discussing with the leaders of a number of pro-European parties of the center-left.

“In the last parliamentary elections, most of the citizens firmly said that they want a pro-European path. Today this desideratum is maintained and the authentic parties that really want this are to strengthen their capacities and to attract greater confidence form the citizens. Discussions are surely held. Right after last year’s congress, we formulated the idea of creating a center-left pro-European pole in the Republic of Moldova. But we weren’t heard then. Many said that this party doesn’t have a future, but the elections showed the opposite. We are communicating with a number of political forces, with political leaders as we aim to create this pro-European pole of the left in the Republic of Moldova. Now I cannot name those parties as we are only paving the way and having discussions, but I assure you that when there is clarity, we will inform about this,” Ion Sula stated in the program “Reflection Points” on Vocea Basarabiei station.

The leader of the PSDE said that at the local level, the party is ready to form alliances with pro-European parties. Either it is in power or in the opposition, the PSDE will promote the European course of the Republic of Moldova.

“We expressed our readiness to form pro-European alliances, with pro-Europeans parties, at the level of district councils. But we see that this thing is not wanted in some of the districts. In Anenii Noi, they say that discussions are being held for the ruling party to form an alliance with the Socialists. The same is true about Ștefan Vodă and other districts. We are ready to form coalitions that would secure the European path of the Republic of Moldova. Even if, in some of the districts, we will not have a majority and will be in the opposition, we will anyway be that party that will not deviate from this path,” stated the chairman of the PSDE.

In this year’s general local elections, the PSDE won 103 offices of mayor in the country. It also obtained 88 seats of district councilor.
