Former Prime Minister of Moldova Ion Sturza said incumbent Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo will be unable to reform the justice sector himself if he does not enjoy political support. President Igor Dodon does not want the current justice system to be changed as he benefits from this himself.

“A person will do nothing if those who are now in power do not transmit a clear political message. Igor Dodon does not want to destroy this system of tools and influences. He better uses it. He is part of this system as he was educated so. Even the exorbitant luxury he displays now is something of a manner copied from former President Vladimir Voronin,” Ion Sturza was quoted by IPN as saying in the program “In Depth” on ProTV Chisinau channel.

The ex-Premier noted that Igor Dodon is an official ‘agent’ of the Russian Federation. He cannot be independent, when he has economic, financial interests and receives support from Russia. “On the other hand, the U.S. will not tolerate a regime that would affect security in the zone to exist behind the front, behind the line of confrontation between the Russian Federation and Ukraine, where Russia has rather serious military presence, at the border with NATO. This would be like a thorn in the U.S.’s side. This is the most vulnerable point of Igor Dodon,” stated Ion Sturza.

According to him, the bank fraud was the biggest humiliation of the people of all times, with Ilan Shor being the main player in this case. This should be brought to the country and punished, but Moldova made no such a step. “The same is true about Vladimir Plahotniuc. If the case had been of concrete and had been sent to Washington, Plahotniuc would have been placed in a plane and taken home. Political will means a lot,” noted the former Premier.
