The new Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo wasn’t by far the preferred candidate of President Igor Dodon. Alexandr Stoianoglo was imposed on him by the development partners and Dodon actually wanted someone else to this post, former Premier Ion Sturza was quoted by IPN as saying in the talk show “Shadow Cabinet” on Jurnal TV channel.
The former Prime Minister said the new prospector general was appointed based on an agreement. “When the Sandu Government was removed, the West was bitterly disappointed and alarmed and gave signals that they are not ready to support Dodon and the new Government under any condition. Then, persons close to Dodon who had more informal ties with the West tried to establish a relationship with them and were told that they must do so that Stoianoglo was named chief of the Prosecutor General’s Office,” he stated.
Ion Sturza noted he knows very well Alexandr Stoianoglo and this is rather independent. “He left the Prosecutor’s Office when Plahotniuc tried to make him a prosecutor of his. I know about the discussion he had with Plahotniuc when he told him that he will accept on particular conditions. The discussion ended in five minutes and he went out not only of Plahotniuc’s office, but also out of the Democratic Party’s sight. Afterward, he was the one who interacted with the international institutions and experts in the justice sector reform of the Republic of Moldova,” he said.
He also said that President Igor Dodon is very vulnerable in the current situation, he being suspected of receiving foreign financing for the Party of Socialists and of being an agent of influence of the Russian Federation. He got into a full responsibility trap. He does not have the intellectual and organizational capacities of Voronin or even of Plahoniuc to manage alone the whole country. He will not be able to manage alone.
