Candidate for premiership Ion Sturza, after the failed attempt to get a vote of confidence in Parliament, said he will go to the street, to the people who support him. He noted that he cannot disappoint the people who have confidence in him, but refused to say if he will create a new political party or will support possible street protests, IPN reports.
“A more turbulent period follows in the Republic of Moldova. During this period, attempts will be made to constitute a parliamentary majority, in accordance with the decision of the Constitutional Court, so that this majority proposes a new candidate and that team goes through the purgatory of society. I anticipate a media massacre in the positive meaning of the word. I will yet continue to cooperate with civil society and the mass media in the most transparent way,” stated Ion Sturza.
The candidate said he was surprised at the lack of a quorum because the messages that came, including from the Democratic Party, showed a quorum will be present. “But there was also a tendency to prevent me from speaking in Parliament as they would have been terminated by the media. It’s known that they were afraid of my message in Parliament, which was regarded as a message to the nation. It can be deduced that the absence of some of the MPs of the Democratic Party was an orchestrated move,” he stated.
The politician noted he will immediately have a meeting with President Nicolae Timofti where they will analyze the situation. Afterward, he will continue his life as a citizen. “We will not speak today about political parties. I can say with certitude that from the Parliament’s rostrum, I will go directly to the street. Two weeks ago there was a huge hole behind me. Now there are hundreds of people behind me and I cannot betray them,” said Ion Sturza.
Today, January 4, the candidate was to ask for the Parliament’s vote of confidence for his governmental team. The special sitting of the legislative body could not take place because a quorum was not present.
