The few nongovernmental organizations working in Transnistria do not want to cooperate with the NGOs from the right side of the Nistru River in ensuring the observance of human rights in the region controlled by the separatist regime, the director of “Promo-Lex” Association Ion Manole said in the talk show “Place for dialogue” on the public station Radio Moldova, IPN reports.
Manole said the activists of the Transnistrian NGOs consider their colleges from the other side of the Nistru are strange when they criticize the authorities. “They do not understand that it’s better when the authorities are criticized as they should correct their mistakes. They interpret any attempt to criticize the Transnistrian authorities as attempt from outside to undermine their so-called statehood,” he explained.
According to the director of “Promo-Lex”, the Transnistrian authorities exert enormous pressure on the NGOs defending human rights. “If an NGO shows courage, the Transnistrian administration does everything possible to liquidate it or to attract it on its side. The Transnistrian NGOs are often used by the authorities to attract money within projects,” stated Manole.
As to the €12 million provided by the EU for building confidence between the two sides of the Nistru, Manole said this money is managed inefficiently. “It usually goes to repair a school or cultural institutions. But the people must travel, meet and communicate. Thus, activities involving people of culture and science and representatives of NGOs should be organized in the institutions repaired with money from the EU. Free thinking should be promoted. Only then will we be able to say that the Europeans’ money is used efficiently to unify the two banks,” said Manole.
