Ion Manole, facilitator of the National Platform of the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum and executive director of “Promo-Lex” Association, considers that both the population and authorities in Moldova wait for the support of any of the foreign partners without making much effort. He stated this opinion in the public debate “Why do the crises in Moldova affect the European integration? View of the participants in the General Assembly of the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum in Kiev. The Assembly’s Resolution on Moldova”, which was organized by IPN in partnership with Radio Moldova.

The director of “Promo-LEX” said the authorities and the population have waited for assistance for 25 years without doing much and thus we cannot overcome the period of transition. Another problem is the fact that society, instead of thanking the development partners, underestimates their assistance and the blame for this is borne by the people and the political elites. Ion Manole gave the example of the roads repaired with money provided by the foreign partners, which are in a deplorable state because they are vandalized and even destroyed by the people.

Ion Manole stated he does not believe that the EU wants so much Moldova to become part of its family. It wants rather to have a stable state without problems at its borders because, when the neighbors are problematic, the other sides are greatly affected. The EU makes effort to help Moldova because it wants a civilized neighboring country. Moldova will not succeed if it does not fight corruption, does not have correct justice and a really responsible political class.

The public debate “Why do the crises in Moldova affect the European integration? View of the participants in the General Assembly of the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum in Kiev. The Assembly’s Resolution on Moldova” is the 46th installment of the series of debates “Developing political culture by public debates”, which are supported by the German foundation “Hanns Seidel”.
