The literary-musical performance “A soirée with lodging leaves” brought together artists, officials and lovers of Ion Druta’s works at the National Philharmonic “Sergei Lunkevich” in Chisinau in the evening of September 8. There were presented fragments of the writer’s novels “Lodging leaves”, “White fortress”, “The Belfry”, and “Burden of our kindness” and launched the last two volumes of the series “Ion Druta – Works in 8 Volumes”, IPN reports.

Attending the performance, Ion Druta said not many in Moldova can write during over six decades and can collect most of the written works in 8 volumes. “I think this evening is a wonder, a miracle that will never repeat,” said the writer.

Ion Druta noted that he wrote these books owing to his faith and to the readers from Moldova and Russia. “I’m not ashamed to say that I’m a bilingual writer. I printed thousands of copies in Russia. In the conditions we live, with cruel and unhappy people, we must bear in mind that a part of the words of our language are Latin, while the other part are Slavic. Moldova combined the Latin and Slavic languages,” he stated.

The writer, who settled in Russia, said he knows the political situation in the country, underlining that there are persons who should be removed from power in Moldova, but there are no persons who can replace them.

Minister of Culture Monica Babuc said the performance was timed to coincide with the writer’s birthday. “Ion Druta is famous at European level and is one of the greatest writers born by mankind. We should all study the works of Ion Druta and find the truths hidden there,” she stated.

The performance involved such famous artists as Mihai Munteanu and Silvia Goncear, accompanied by the orchestra “Folklore” conducted by master Petre Neamtu, and actors of the National Theater “Mihai Eminescu” Alexandru Plesca, Diana Onica-Dicusara and Ghenadie Galca, who acted as compères.

Ion Druta was born in Horodiste village of Donduseni district on September 3, 1928.
