Ion Dosca became world checkers champion among veterans for the fourth time. At the competition held in Bulgaria, he scored 14 points out of 14 possible, IPN reports.
The tournament involved 20 competitors. Moldova’s Cristina Zaruba won two gold medals in the youth category in Rapid and Blitz. The women’s team ranked second in Blitz and, respectively, Classic and third in Rapid. Moldova won a total of nine medals.
Ion Dosca, 60, won the Cup of USSR (1980 and 1990), is a Soviet Union champion, Russian variant (1991), an awardee of the World Championships, universal variant, a world champion (1999), and a United States champion, pool-checkers variant (2000).
