International Grandmaster Ion Dosca won the sixtieth edition of the world’s longest-running checkers championship, which was traditionally held in the town of Kuressaare on the island of Saaremaa in Estonia, IPN reports.

In recent decades, the competition has been patronized by the Truu family – father Ian and son Ivar who are passionate about this kind of noble sport. The reasons for the invitation of Moldova’s Ion Dosca were his titles of world champion, champion of the former USSR and the U.S., of the Baltic States, which he has held for a long time, but also the fact that he won the Estonian national competition last year.

And again Dosca amazed everyone, setting two historical records, obtaining an absolute result - 14 points out of 14 possible, defeating all his opponents, including Grandmaster Guntars Purvinș (multiple champion of Latvia) in the decisive match and becoming the oldest winner in the history of the Saaremaa Cup.
