International draughts grandmaster Ion Dosca has won the world champion title among veterans, blitz version, in the 60-plus age category, IPN reports.
Igor Rybakov, representing the United States, came in second in this age category, followed by Lithuania’s Boris Druzhinin.
Ion Dosca's coach and wife, Elena Tkachenko, who represented Latvia at this championship, became world champion among women. The second place was occupied by the Russian Liudmila Petrova, and the Lithuanian Jurate Jakstoniene obtained the third place.
The championship takes place during August 20-31 in Kranevo, Bulgaria.
This is the sixth world title for Ion Dosca, along with three other European titles
Ion Dosca is considered to be the most successful draughts player in Moldova. He is the holder of the USSR Cup (1980 and 1990), the champion of the Soviet Union (1991), Russian variant, prize-winner of World Championships, universal variant, world champion (1999), universal variant, a US champion, pool-checkers variant (2000) and 18 times champion of Moldova.
