The great international master in draughts Ion Dosca from Chisinau reached the semi-finals of the Brazilian draughts contest in the first World Mind Sports Games. The prestigious tournament runs from November 3 to 18 in Beijing, Info-Prim Neo reports. On October 16 the quarter finals in the 64 tournaments were played in the morning. Eight men and as many women had to eliminate the group with half the amount. The remaining 2 times 4 players were welcomed in the semi finals. Nikolai Struchkov maneuvered himself into the spotlights by kicking 10×10 world champion Alexander Schwarzman out of the tournament. A draw was enough because he was higher ranked in the preliminaries. Struchkov is now up against his compatriot Oleg Dashkov, who defeated Andrius Kybartas in the necessary barrage. Sergey Belosheev is playing the semifinals also, after winning the three requested micro-matches against Valery Grebenkin in the barrages! Last but not least Ion Dosca played a draw against Kolesov, but reached the semi finals because of his higher ranking in the preliminaries. After the first 7 rounds, Ion Dosca was leading the standings with 91 points. The World Mind Sports Games got together over 300 players from 60 countries and other 2,000 sportspeople in other mind games (chess, bridge, go, Chinese draughts.)
